George
The hotel has a good location, close to public transportation and it was easy to get around. the breakfast was included and was basic but good enough to start the day. the staff was kind and made us feel welcome. the room was clean and well-maintained.
The hotel room was quite small and did not have enough space to move freely. the Wi-Fi was not stable and there were a lot of connection problems.

The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The rooms were basic, comfortable and clean but we had expected this from the information we had read. The food was plentiful, excellent quality and value for money. We would certainly go back there again. We had no internet access for details of our flights home but the Manager went out of his way to check airlines with updates not only on this information but the procedures for delayed passengers for which we thank him.
We would have liked tea and coffee making facilities in the room although of course drinks were available for us to purchase all day from the hotel.

The Flame Tree Madeira is a hidden gem nestled on a hill with breathtaking panoramic views of the bay. The location, away from the hustle and bustle of Funchal, provides a tranquil retreat for those seeking a peaceful getaway. The attentive and friendly staff ensure that guests feel welcome and well taken care of. The rooms, although basic, are clean and comfortable, offering a good night's sleep. Plus, waking up to the stunning sea views from the double bed is an added bonus. The breakfast spread is satisfying, with a variety of options including a delicious cooked breakfast, all included in the price.
All was top-notch, no complaints whatsoever.

The food has excellent with great presentation and excepcional flavour. The hotel staff were quite helpful and extremely friendly. The room has spacious has the pictures arent truethfull as the hotel is much better, in various ways from decoration to facilities, than shown here.
The lack of a TV in the room was negative point, as it's not essential but a standard commodity.

We had such an amazing time during our city trip! The location was perfect, with stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and they even arranged a rental car for us which made exploring the city so much easier. The food at the hotel was absolutely delicious, with individual service and a fantastic cook. We loved that the hotel was a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the city, allowing us to relax and enjoy the tranquility.
Our room was a bit too dark for our liking, which made it feel a bit gloomy at times. we noticed that the maintenance and upkeep of the hotel could have been better, with some paintwork needing touch-ups.

Nice furniture in the room, nice view from the balcony, nice dinner meal
We have had the room eith the balcony to terrace. So it was quite noisy till dinner ends. Also we were not able to sleep in the mornings because of people having breakfast. Also it was not good to have the same meal each morning.

The location of the hotel is excellent, as it is within walking distance of the city centre. Guests have mentioned in the reviews that it is in a smart area of town and close to the centre of Funchal.
Some guests have mentioned that the breakfast offered at the hotel was poor, with a lack of options such as meat, cheese, and eggs.

The service was excellent, very nice people. We were given the choice between 2 rooms and both rooms were nice and clean. We upgraded to a room with sea views and half board for a very reasonable price (12.5euros per day per person). The restaurant is also a good option for evenings (would especially recommend their fishes, the meat tended to be overcooked). The swimming pool is small but we always found available chairs + space there and there is a sun terrace which is lovely. Very good hotel, given that it only has 2 stars.
The hotel is difficult to find on the day of arrival but then with buses it is ok. Breakfast could be a bit more varied (although if you only stay a few days it's very fine).

Excellent service. Nothing was too much trouble. Whilst accommodation was fairly basic it was all clean and towels were changed daily. The food was also excellent and standards of cleanliness again very good with clean linen clothes and napkins at all times.
Barking dog(s) but apparently from next door and this problem is definitely already known to the hotel who have no control outside their property.

The Flame Tree Madeira is located on a hill to the west of the town center, offering panoramic views across the bay. The hotel is situated in a pleasant residential area, away from the hustle and bustle of the town. The rooms are clean and tidy, and the balconies provide a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful sea views. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring that our stay was comfortable. The breakfast options are varied, with a cooked option available to order at no extra charge.
All in all, our stay at this hotel was great and we had no issues.

Essentially the price, the cleanliness of the accommodation and the attention of hotel staff.
The hotel is away from the city center and access - particularly in the return, the night - can be tricky. The rooms do not have Internet access. The rooms also have no fridge (for the client to store water, juice, soda, etc.) or fan, so in summer time can become very uncomfortable. The rooms have no insulation, so if you give chance to have noisy neighbors beside you - as I did - your nights sleep can be quite complicated. Some rooms - as I was - are located in a building outside the headquarters hotel, giving the impression of improvisation. Do not be impressed by the photos!

Lovely views overlooking Funchal and the sea. Choice of indoor and outdoor dining areas (with beautiful flowering trees and plants all around). Imaginatively decorated rooms, kept very clean. Excellent food, very reasonably priced. Friendly, efficient staff.
There was a problem with some noisy guests during the last night of our 3-night stay, but I suppose this could happen anywhere. The main thing that kept us awake apart from their loud voices was the sound of chairs being moved around. However, this had also been a problem at the "posher" hotel we had already stayed at in Funchal. Why don't they just put some sort of pads on the chair legs to dampen this scraping noise?
